Eibar and Villarreal were the nailed on bankers from last week and both of them came in.
This week there are two more bankers and yet again I feel quite confident of a few more games as Colossus seem to be feeling a bit more generous with the fixtures at the moment.
Last week we were off to a great start, but were tripped up by Hibs Rangers that ended 5-5, despite Hibs being 3-0 up and then Rangers 5-3 up at different stages and we had both home and away covered. I hold my hands up and can say I simply went wrong by backing Everton over West Ham, but every other result was nail bitingly close and we only got 5 wrong in total, with just a goal in it for most of them.
Anyway, onto this week…
I can’t say that Swedish football would be my specialist subject if I was on Mastermind but Osterdunds finished well above GIF Sundsvull last season, so even though Sundsvull are currently above them in the league I expect this to be a simply away win.
Real Betis have been brilliant this season and I can see them coming out easy winners in this fixture. Leganes have only managed a draw in the last five fixtures so their form is terrible.
Both teams have pretty awful recent league form – a draw being the best result for both of them in the last four games. But Girona are well above them in the league so have the best chance. I might cover a draw to be safe.
Selection: DRAW / AWAY
Getafe area playing out of their skin at the moment and bottom of the league Malaga will not cause them any problems. Away Banker.
Villarreal are on fire. Apart from Levante they have the best league form of anyone in La Liga and the only loss they suffered in the last five games was against Barcelona. They could certainly take this fixture from a Real Madrid team that recently lost to Sevilla. But as we all know, once Real get going they can destroy anyone, so I will cover away too.
Selection: HOME / AWAY
French football is notoriously difficult to predict as I’ve mentioned before – but this looks like one of the easier fixtures to have a stab at. Rennes have won the last three games on the bounce and Montpellier’s form is shaky at best. With the home crowd and superior league position in their favour I will back Rennes to win, but will cover the draw that so often trips people up in French football in particular.
Selection: HOME / DRAW
Not 100 percent certain of this being a home win as Lille have produced some good results in the league winning the last three. St Etienne by comparison have lost the last two. However, home advantage and league position will sway me again, as before that St Etienne were pulling everything together.
Lyon have everything to play for to try and keep themselves in the top 3 of Ligue 1 and out of reach of Marseille. I doubt they will find Nice to be a push over, but I feel confident they can get a home victory.
This is where things get a bit more difficult. 13th plays 14th and both teams with mixed league form. Dijon have bagged 12 wins and Angers only 9, plus they have the advantage of playing in front of the home crowd, so a home win is most likely. But I will cover the draw too as this is obviously a tough fixture.
Selection: HOME / DRAW
Bottom of the table Metz with a goal difference of -38, surely can’t worry in-form Bordeaux who are sitting in 7th position and look to finish above Nice if they lose. Away Banker.
Espanyol are starting to show some great spirit since Flores got sacked, acquiring three wins and a draw in the last four games, including a win against Atletico Madrid. Athletic Bilbao don’t really have anything to recommend them apart from the fact that the bookies have them as nailed on favourites. I’m going to take a gamble on this fixture and back the away win.
Fiorentina are just one of those teams that I always seem to be on the wrong side of. AC Milan are obvious favourites, but I feel this has might have draw written all over it. Fiorentina beat Napoli and Genoa fairly convincingly recently but both of them had a player sent off so I can’t really trust those results. AC Milan almost beat an in-form Atalanta away if it weren’t for a last minute goal, and both teams were down to 10 men. Really hard to decide so I will trust in the odds and back the home win, but cover the draw.
Selection: HOME / DRAW
As I’ve mentioned before Atalanta are one of my favourite teams in Serie A. They should destroy Cagliari who are sitting in 16th place despite the fact they will be throwing everything at it to stay alive.
Lazio didn’t really shine against Crotone last time out and Inter Milan’s defence is one of the best in the league having let in only 28 goals this season in total. Neither team really have the edge for me, and because Milan’s defence is tight and they have a high number of draws I’m backing that trend to continue and gambling on the draw.
Another Swedish fixture so will have to do some research. Elfsborg finished just above Goteborg last season and the bookies have them as slight favourites, so I guess the sensible money is on the home win, but I feel a draw is very possible as they are so closely matched.
