Champions League Final preview: Juventus v Real Madrid.

CL FINAL PREVIEW: JUVENTUS V REAL MADRID.

The biggest game of the European football calendar is upon us – and it also features in numerous pools on our website this weekend! Can Higuaín & co spoil his ex-club’s march towards a seemingly insurmountable 12th Champions League win? At Colossus, we feel there’s a few talking points. Of note, the Old Lady’s formidable centre back trio, Higuaín against his old club and the question of whether this will be a low scoring narrow win or a goal fest.

THREE AT THE BACK

Juventus’ defensive trio of Barzagli, Bonucci and Chiellini have only allowed 3 goals past them in this CL Campaign. Real have conceded 17. The goals scored however is a different story, with 32 scored for Real and 21 for Juventus (still however, not a poor tally!). If the trio can keep out the likes of Ronaldo and Benzema and make it through the early periods of the game, don’t be surprised to see a narrow Juventus victory. Provided Casemiro doesn’t get away with five yellow card worthy tackles this time…

FAMILIAR FACES

Higuaín scored an impressive 107 goals in 190 appearances for Real Madrid. However, he  always seemed second fiddle upon Karim Benzema’s arrival, who was seen as the perfect striker to compliment Ronaldo, the golden boy. We have no doubt that Higuaín would love to prove his doubters wrong. If he’s as clinical as he was in the first leg against Monaco, Real Madrid’s defence better watch out for the natural poacher, chances always seem to fall to him.

GOALS GALORE?

As we’ve noted above, this seems to be a battle between the rock-solid unit that is Juventus and the seemingly free scoring Real Madrid (back to back hattrick scorer Ronaldo in particular!).  The question is what type of game can we expect between these two. Since Bayern Munich v Valencia in the 00/01 season, seven finals have had under 2.5 goals and 9 have had over 2.5 goals.

If you’re looking to win big bucks on our correct score £1,000,000 pool or £250,000 in our pick 20 O/U pool, it may be worth taking those stats into account. If you’re going for our pick 15 1×2 for £800,000 it may be worth covering the draw. The Champions League final certainly has not failed to deliver memorable extra times and penalty shoot outs in recent years!
