@DaveTindallgolf‘s Race to the Premier League Player of the Year after Matchday 16.

1/ Raheem Sterling

(Last week: 1)

On the losing side for the first time this season as Man City lost at Chelsea but he’s been fantastic over the first part of the campaign, firing in eight Premier League goals, contributing six assists and never giving opposing defenders a second’s rest. He stays top of the charts for the third week running.

2/ Virgil Van Dijk

(Last week: 3)

Yet another clean sheet for the Reds defence away at Bournemouth and the giant Dutchman made his usual impressive contribution, winning headers and spreading calm. No team in the history of the top-flight has conceded fewer goals after 16 games than Liverpool’s six – a remarkable transformation and Van Dijk is a huge reason why.

3/ David Silva

(Last week: 2)

Like Sterling, Silva had an afternoon to forget at Stamford Bridge and limped off. But such days are few and far between for the Spanish midfield wizard who has delighted us once more this season with his familiar perpetual motion and increased goal output (eight in all comps).

4/ Mo Salah

(Last week: N/A)

Last season’s Golden Boot winner has been in and out of the top 10 this season but he surges back at No. 4 after a brilliant hat-trick at Bournemouth. In three flashes of his left foot, Salah is now the Premier League’s joint-top scorer with 10 goals and he’s contributed four assists too. One-season wonder? Most definitely not.

5/ Eden Hazard

(Last week: 4)

The goal drought continues and he doesn’t look comfortable playing so far forward but a smooth piece of footwork set up N’Golo Kante’s opener in the 2-0 win over Man City – his eighth assist of the season, more than anyone else in the top-flight – and the Belgian has plenty of credit in the bank after his sensational start to the campaign.

6/ Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

(Last week: 6)

Shares top spot in the Golden Boot race with Mo Salah now but Aubameyang still made a big impact at the weekend, teeing up Lucas Torreira with a deft chip to help Arsenal grab an 83rd-minute winner against Huddersfield when a stalemate beckoned. The Gabon striker has been involved in 27 goals in his 29 appearances for the Gunners, scoring 20.

7/ Harry Kane

(Last week: 5)

With Barcelona on the horizon, Kane had to warm the bench for 74 minutes in the 2-0 win at Leicester so, with the ratings tight, he drops a couple of places. Still producing the goods this season and only Salah and Aubameyang have scored more than his tally of nine Premier League goals.

8/ Callum Wilson

(Last week: 7)

It shows what an impact he’s had that many Liverpool fans were relieved to see Wilson ruled out of Saturday’s clash with injury. Bournemouth fired blanks without him and missed the attacking threat which has seen Wilson bang in eight Premier League goals and add five assists.

9/ Alisson

(Last week: N/A)

Liverpool top the table and Alisson has been one of their most consistent performers in the 16-match unbeaten run. The Brazilian leads the way with 10 clean sheets (two more than anyone else) and has made big saves at key moments. The Merseysiders paid top dollar but it looks money well spent. A huge weakness has become a strength.

10/ Leroy Sane

(Last week: 8)

A rare off-day against Chelsea but Sane has lit up the Premier League at times this season with his pace, trickery and eye for goal. Not always a regular starter but has still contributed six goals and five assists to help City bank 41 points out of 48.
