@DaveTindallGolf‘s race to the Premier League Player of the Year after Matchday 8.

1/ Eden Hazard

(Last week: 1)

A mile clear to be honest. Scored one and laid on another in the 3-0 cruise at Southampton. That’s seven Premier League goals – two more than anyone else – and three assists so far this season for the Chelsea star. It’s early days but it’ll take a big effort to stop him – unless the lure of Real Madrid proves too strong and he ups sticks to Spain in January.

2/ Virgil Van Dijk

(Last week: 2)

A blot on his copybook on Sunday after his foul on Leroy Sane gave Man City a late penalty. Thankfully for the Dutchman, Riyad Mahrez blazed it into the crowd and Reds fans could focus on all the good stuff he did to secure another clean sheet. Liverpool haven’t let in a home goal in the Premier League since February and Van Dijk is a huge reason why.

3/ Sergio Aguero

(Last week: 3)

Thankfully, Aguero doesn’t have to play at Anfield every week as he’s never scored there and the drought continued on Sunday. Still, he does bang them in on every other ground and five Premier League goals this season and two assists keeps him firmly in the top three.

4/ Marcus Alonso

(Last week: 5)

It was all about his forward play in the first few games of the season and Alonso is still giving Chelsea great potency down the left. But the Blues are adding clean sheets now, the latest coming at Southampton on Saturday.

5/ Raheem Sterling

(Last week: 4)

For Aguero at Anfield, read Sterling at Anfield. Sterling gets pelters on his return to Liverpool and it shows in his displays. However, it’s out of the way for another season and he’s an integral part of this City system, registering four goals and two assists to help put the champions top on goal difference.

6/ Harry Kane

(Last week: 6)

Fantasy managers may have been cursing him for drawing a blank at home to Cardiff but only Eden Hazard has scored more Premier League goals than Kane this season and how about his strike against Barcelona, even if Messi did steal the show.

7/ Callum Wilson

(Last week: N/A)

His three goals, including the fourth in the 4-0 romp at Watford last weekend, have helped Bournemouth to the giddy heights of sixth place. But get this, the Cherries striker is also the joint top assist maker in the Premier League this season with four.

8/ Gylfi Sigurdsson

(Last week: N/A)

One of the Premier League’s form players after smashing four in his last four games. The Icelandic star hit new heights with a stunning winner away to Leicester at the weekend, his 50th in the top flight and 19th from outside the box. He’s also put in the joint-second most crosses this season.

9/ Alexandre Lacazette

(Last week: N/A)

Arsenal aren’t the story this season and yet they’ve won their last nine matches in all comps! Lacazette has five in his last seven matches, including four in the Premier League, and he’s thrown in an assist too. The Frenchman cut a frustrated figure last term; this season he’s flying.

10/ Jorginho

(Last week: 8)

Chelsea are playing much more of a possession game and the Italian is integral to it. His tally of 853 passes this season is over 100 more than anyone else and they’re not all sideways as he rates fourth in ‘Through Balls’.
